Bonobo became a favorite of mine after hearing his song "Terrapin" which was release back in 1999 by Tru Thoughts. He then in 2000 released his first LP "Animal Magic" which was self produced and he grew quickly to become the new down-tempo pioneer. In 2003 Bonobo switched labels and came over to Ninja Tune in which he produced three albums under this label. This includes his new album"Black Sands".
The new album "Black Sands" is Bonobo's newest album since 2006. This album was release in March of 2010 and it couldn't have came at a better time. Simon Green has once again provided us with a electronic plethora of hip hop/ jazzy hybrid mixed with the already well achieved textured sounds from his previous albums. Bonobo I guess you can say is a medley of jazz, funk, soul, electronic, pop, hip-hop, trip-hop, drum and bass, lounge, classical, and so on. Its very hard to stick him into one genre of music due to his vast style and arrangements of his songs. In listening to the new album you will find this to be true as you go from one song to the next. The album has a flow to it that will go by unnoticed throughout the album. When you think of a sculpture you think of statues or things that don't move. Well this is not the case for one artist. Theo Jansen who is a talented Dutch artist that creates kinetic sculptures which resemble animals and are able to walk using the power of wind. Jansen is looking to eventually let these creatures roam free on the beach to live on their own. These creatures use different styles of wind capturing and also have an understanding of if an obstacle is in the way and it will walk back in the opposite direction. Summer is just around the corner and to some it already feels like summer. So being in the spirit of driving with the windows down. I found this website Kharma yesterday from designer NoPattern on his twitter page. NoPattern was promoting this site because he is a part of what they're all about. What I found intriguing about the concept of this clothing retailer is that with each product that they make, and each piece that is purchased, it benefits a cause that's real and human. What this company does is find what inspires them. Kharma stated that they love uniqueness; they love people who are changing the world in unique ways. So they make pieces that will support them and help spread their message.
On the Kharma site it tells you who the designer is and what charity the shirt is representing. Theirs a limit of 150ct per shirt so they are limited. Once you click on a shirt that fits your fancy it will give you a description of the charity and what it's about and it even tells you what percentage of the sale goes to the designer. Kharma definitely has the right idea and a great concept going on. They have a collaborative, cause-driven, lifestyle brand aimed at colliding the worlds of consumption and good deeds per their site and I couldn't agree more. So start buying away and start sporting your style while supporting your cause.
Dan May who is a painter has caught my attention with his world of mystery and intriguing creatures. From what I have read he spends a lot of his time creating dreamlike environments that transcend space and time. Each of his works has a eerie feeling yet a wondrous imagination of wondering what the background story of each of his creatures are. Dan states that his delightful yet haunting images are often based in personal observations of both human's and nature's relationships with each other, blended with a healthy dose of whimsy, fantasy and cautious relevance...
Dan is very well know in the art community. His artwork has been exhibited in galleries throughout the US and abroad. Dan has collaborated with numerous publications, design firms, advertising agencies, and publishing houses. Some of his clients include WIRED, St. Louis Magazine, The San Francisco Chronicle, Aspen Magazine, Village Voice Media, AOL Productions, 20th Century FOX, and VIZ Media.

The Eigenharp Alpha is a mixture between a woodwind and keyboard, offering up an unorthodox musical control paradigm that includes a breath pipe, 120 keys, 12 percussion keys, two strip controllers, and multiple pedal inputs, all of which our ran into a Mac to produce a multitude of sounds. Last week I showed you a house that was built in the mountains. So it would only be fitting that I show you a home that lives amongst the trees. The house started construction in 1997 and was completed in 2004. It was built in Portland, Oregon by Robert Harvey Oshatz. A lover of music, the client wanted a house that not only became part of the natural landscape but also addressed the flow of music. This house evades the mechanics of the camera; it is difficult to capture the way the interior space flows seamlessly through to the exterior. One must actually stroll through the house to grasp its complexities and its connection to the exterior. One example is a natural wood ceiling, floating on curved laminated wood beams, passing through a generous glass wall which wraps around the main living room.
So I will be heading to Bonnaroo in less than 20 days and I'm looking forward to seeing a ton of bands that will be playing at Bonnaroo. There is however a band that is on the top list of people to see and one of them is Local Natives. They currently have a new album out called Gorilla Manor which was released in the US in February 2010. The album Gorilla Manor was named after the house they all shared in Orange County, where most of the album was written. “It was insanely messy and there were always friends over knocking around on guitars or our thrift store piano,” said guitarist Ryan Hahn.
This band has a unique style which consists of different harmonic vocals while blending in different sounds of orchestral melodies. The band has made this record with intention of bring you up and down with songs which you can dance to and others that chill you right out. Another great thing about this band is that their live sessions sound just as good as the album versions. You don't find that the case most of the time. This five piece band has a lot to offer in the indie scene and I highly recommend giving them a listen.
In Switzerland lives a home that is underground. It was designed by SeARCH and Christian Muller Architects, and this home is fully embedded in the alpine landscape of Vals, Switzerland. This home not only has a strange exterior but a beautiful interior with a modern look and feel to the place. It also looks to have an incline to the building giving a different vantage point when viewing the surrounding mountains. This home is also set within walking distance to the famous thermal springs of Therme Vals; a hotel/spa complex that is built directly over the natural springs. Their is also a barn next to the home and that is the entrance to the underground home.
