So I will be heading to Bonnaroo in less than 20 days and I'm looking forward to seeing a ton of bands that will be playing at Bonnaroo. There is however a band that is on the top list of people to see and one of them is Local Natives. They currently have a new album out called Gorilla Manor which was released in the US in February 2010. The album Gorilla Manor was named after the house they all shared in Orange County, where most of the album was written. “It was insanely messy and there were always friends over knocking around on guitars or our thrift store piano,” said guitarist Ryan Hahn.
This band has a unique style which consists of different harmonic vocals while blending in different sounds of orchestral melodies. The band has made this record with intention of bring you up and down with songs which you can dance to and others that chill you right out. Another great thing about this band is that their live sessions sound just as good as the album versions. You don't find that the case most of the time. This five piece band has a lot to offer in the indie scene and I highly recommend giving them a listen.
Well it's that time again for you guessed it Bonnaroo! The Music and Arts Festival which is an annual, four to five-day music festival, created and produced by Superfly Productions and AC Entertainment, first held back in 2002. The festival is located at the Great Stage Park on a 700 acre farm in Manchester, Tennessee. So in it's ninth year of celebrating I will get to par take in this monumental festival on June 10th-13th. Bonnaroo which brings together some of the best performers in rock and roll, along with dozens of artists in complementary styles such as jazz, Americana, hip-hop, electronica, and just about any contemporary music you can think of. In addition to dozens of epic performances, the festival's 100-acre entertainment village buzzes around the clock with attractions and activities including a on-site cinema, silent disco, comedy club, theater performers, yoga classes, and more. This year looks to have some great bands and artists like: Dave Matthews Band, Kid Cudi, The XX, Local Natives, Miike Snow and I could go on and on but I will put up the flier and you can check it out for yourself.
The 2010 Lineup
Note:Lineup is subject to change per Bonnaroo's website.
I was made a aware of the Sasquatch! Festival last Friday from a friend and I wanted to check it out and see what it was all about. I was very impressed by what I found and the lineup for this festival is packed full of great acts. They have bands like Vampire Weekend, Passion Pit, Mumford & Sons, Deadmau5, MGMT, Band of Horses and many more talented acts over a 3 day festival. The festival is to begin on May 29th to May 31st in Quincy, WA. So far this year's lineup keeps Sasquatch! in the conversation of must-attend destination festival and makes the Sasquatch! 2010 well worth the price of admission, which is $170 for a three-day pass or $70 a day.
Another factor about this festival is how green this festival has become. For the past three years Esurance, the auto insurance provider, has teamed up with Sasquatch! to promote a more sustainable event. By increasing sustainable practices at the Gorge, including an expanded recycling program, eco-friendly signage, and energy-efficient lighting, they are able to reduce the overall carbon footprint at the venue. They even setup a way for folks to share a ride and minimize the environmental impact on this large event. The three day festival will be 100% wind powered. Additionally, Carbon Harmony will offset 125% of the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions produced during the festival at The Gorge Amphitheater. I think that many more large events should use some of the sustainable solutions available to them when putting together their large events. It's rather refreshing to know that you can not only have a blast watching great bands but your also helping out the environment. That's something to feel pretty good about.
I will be heading to the Winter Jam 2010 in Daytona this weekend with some friends from Ohio and I wanted to share with the reader what Winter Jam is all about.
